Why choose a dentist for facial aesthetic treatments? It’s simple: dentists receive advanced training in facial musculature and anatomy. These treatments aren’t just about the skin, but also what lies beneath. A skilled practitioner understands exactly where injections should be made and which muscles should be targeted for the desired effects.
We offer the following facial aesthetic treatments in our office:
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medication derived from botulinum toxin that is injected into muscles to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), forehead lines, and lines around the side of the eyes (crow’s feet) in adults. BOTOX can also be used as a therapeutic treatment for temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD).
JUVEDERM® XC is a smooth gel filler that instantly smooths away wrinkles around the nose and mouth. One treatment provides natural-looking results that last up to a year.
Frequently Asked Questions About Botox and Juvederm
How long does Botox last?
Botox usually lasts between three to six months before re-treatment is needed. As the effects wear off, the muscles begin to move again and fine lines and wrinkles start to reappear.
At what age should you start getting Botox?
There’s no minimum or maximum age for Botox, but generally speaking, you can start getting Botox whenever you see lines or wrinkles that bother you. Usually this starts occurring around the age of 30. Some patients choose to start Botox in their mid-20s in order to prevent future lines and wrinkles from forming, but the value of preventive Botox treatments is debatable.
Does skin look worse after Botox wears off?
No, your skin will not look worse after Botox wears off. It may look the same as it did before you got Botox, but it will not worsen the appearance of your skin.
Is Juvederm painful?
Yes, Juvederm is painful, but we have ways of minimizing that pain. We can ice the injection site to numb it before your injection and apply a topical numbing gel to your skin as well. Juvederm contains lidocaine, which numbs the area where it is being injected.
Is Juvederm safe to use?
Yes, Juvederm is an FDA-approved treatment for fine lines and wrinkles. Even though it is safe, there are some mild side effects that may occur, including redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, itching, and bumps at the injection site.
Does Juvederm work immediately?
Juvederm does start working immediately, but you won’t see full results for a few days. This is because Juvederm is a thick gel and it takes some time to settle into its final position.
What are the side effects of Botox?
Side effects of Botox include muscle weakness at or around the injection site, muscle stiffness, neck pain, blurred vision, dry eyes, drooping eyebrows, puffy eyelids, dry mouth, and headache.
